XPSIM provides a dynamic simulation application for the analysis of the behavior of unit operations and the controllers implemented.
For dynamic simulation the plant description required is more detailed being at the level of P&ID
i.e Process and Instruments Diagram.
The connections of unit operation is not defined by streams any more but by physical lines.
The following table contains a list of the unit operations currently available
Simulation Operation | Process Operation |
LINE | piping connection. Gas, liquid, and multiphase flow |
MIXER | mixer of LINEs |
NODE | connection of more LINEs |
VESSEL | flash-drum, equilibrium operations |
CVALVE | control valve |
PSV | pressure safety valve |
PIPELINE | multiphase transfer line |
COMPRESSOR | gas compressor |
PUMP | liquid pump |
HX | heat-exchanger side |
EXPANDER | gas/liquid expander |
HEATEXCH | heat exchanger |
PVACUUM | vacuum pump |
MOTOR | electric motor |
COLUMN | distillation column section |
HXSHTB | shell & tube heat exchanger |
The user interface available for dynamic simulation is described in the User's Interface manual that may be downloaded from this web-site
The main difference with respect to steady state simulation is related to the requirement of providing a plant description nearer to what is found on a P&I diagram i.e. a Process and Instrument diagram

So one process engineer will spend much more time in setting a dynamic simulation case with respect to a steady state simulation case.
